Recognising and Supporting Our Young Carers

At Kyson primary we care about all of our pupils, we recognise that many of our pupils are young carers.

What is a young carer?

A young person, who is caring for or emotionally affected by a family member who has a physical or mental illness, disability or misuses drugs or alcohol.

Sibling carers – a young person who is affected by a brother or sister’s disability, illness or additional need.

At Kyson we have strong links with Suffolk Family Carers and work with the charity to sign post our young carers for support. We also run ‘Wednesday Club’ in school where our young carers are invited to attend a session on Wednesday lunch time to meet other young carers and take part in fun activities including crafts, board games and Emotional Literacy Support.

If you would like further information about Suffolk Family carers, please visit click here. To register a young carer please click here.

Or you can call the school and request to talk to Mrs Ridall (SENDCo) or Mrs Brennan (Family support worker), who can support you.
