Early Help Offer

A big part of our Early Help Offer is through our Children and Families Lead, Mrs Brennan - click here to find out more about her role at Kyson.
At Kyson we work hard to support children and families, offering early help by providing support as soon as a problem emerges. This may include working in partnership with other agencies to ensure the right support is put in place. Our aim is always to ensure an issue does not escalate and children and families are supported in the best ways possible.
Our early help offer is designed to respond to a wide range of issues. This could be from a need which only requires advice or guidance through to a child at immediate risk of harm.
Any child may benefit from early help. Kyson staff are particularly alert to the potential need for early help for vulnerable children as identified in the ‘Working Together To Safeguard Children’ (2018) guidance.
Kyson’s early help offer includes:
-
Children and Families Lead and SENDCo with no class responsibility who lead our early help support.
- Trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and two Alternate Safeguarding Leads that work in partnership to support safeguarding across the school.
- Safeguarding governor.
- The Nest Nurture Group.
- Induction sessions for children starting EYFS class, including visits to see children in other settings.
- Lunchtime Play Leaders.
- External agency support (Behaviour support, Bereavement Counselling, Child Specific Interventions, Family Network Meetings, Common Assessment Frameworks, Family Support Practitioners).
- Open door policy – teacher’s pastoral guidance and support for families.
- Academic interventions with teachers and support staff.
- Mentoring and pupil support programmes.

- Learning to keep safe in our PSHE curriculum.
- Recognising and supporting our young carers.
Trauma Informed Approach at Kyson.
-
Whole school Trauma Informed Approach lead by Rebecca Brennan (Trauma Informed Schools UK Practitioner). This involves staff supporting children, parents and our whole school community through a trauma informed lens. More details about this can be found in our Kyson Trauma Informed Staple.
-
We have developed a Kyson Trauma Informed School Action plan to ensure this practice is fully embedded across school.
-
All staff have completed trauma informed training providing insights into the psychology and neuroscience of mental ill-health and challenging behaviour. Staff have been trained to use vital tools and techniques in knowing how to respond to a child's narrative of painful life events.
-
Within our Trauma Informed approach staff use PACE (Play, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) across the school. To bring psychological safety and emotional responsiveness in connection, key for secure attachment. All staff have received training and strategies have been shared with parents.
